Bath time

Bath time may be Cashion's favorite thing in the world. He asked for it by name now, saying "bath" and "bubble" with glee! Sadie likes to take a bubble bath in the "big bath" too. Thankfully, she has gotten over getting splashed because it happens a lot.

Sadie says (part 2)...

"That house is made out of logs, it is called a cabbage."
The next day:
Matt: "What is that log house called?"
Sadie: "a lettuce"

Sadie sayings

We are squarely in the world of "why" now at age 3. And unfortunately, "because" doesn't usually do the trick.

"I'll be-really-have" instead of behave.

"My voice is too small" when singing in the car.

"A bee took a bite of my cheese."

When talking to her monster doll: "Be careful, don't bite my hand. No biting and no spitting. That is not a good job. I'll take your teeth off if you're not nice."

"Cashion is my best friend...and Max."

Naming baby brother

Now don't get too excited. We won't even share our names with Sadie because she can't keep a secret, so you'll have to wait another 3 months until he arrives. But, Daddy did ask her last night what she thought he should be named. Her answer..."mosquito bite."

Pavlov

One of my favorite new sayings that Sadie has is when she wants to ring the doorbell. She says, "I need to bark the dogs." Sure enough, Molly obliges every time. Good watchdog.

Good night, Sleep tight

Sadie says the most adorable thing at night when her Daddy and I are putting her to bed:
"The sun is going down and the moon is coming out and the stars.."

I'm not making this stuff up

Sadie says:
"Oh, Honey. Don't do that." (Picture her shaking her head looking down at the floor.)
"It's been a long day" (Big sigh)
"Bless you blanket" (What she named the tissue that she used as a blanket for her babies)

Sadie: "Mommy, what kind of car is that?"
Mommy: "A red car."
S: "No, what kind of car?"
M: "A Ford Explorer."
S: "Like Dora?!?!?!"
M: "Uh...yeah, I guess so."
S: "Dora can't drive, she's too little."

Another funny moment

Sadie, her Daddy and I went to the lake house this weekend for some R & R. We had a great time swimming, playing and napping. She said the funniest thing on the way home this afternoon. We were talking about what to pick up for lunch on the way home and Daddy referenced Napoleon Dynamite with, "make yourself a quesadilla or something." Sadie's response..."a quesa-who?"

Carwash

I drove through the carwash at the gas station today and Sadie pipes up from the backseat, "Dibble dibble dopp dopp" (which is the sound the rain makes in "Mr. Brown Can Moo" by Dr. Suess, if you are not familiar.) It wasn't until we drove away that she started crying because she was scared by the loud noises that the powerful spray made. She was fine after we went to Walgreens and she got distracted by the aisle of cards.

Kids say the darndest things

We were driving downtown on the way to church when Sadie spotted the state Capitol building and said, "Mommy, a castle!" When I asked her who lived in the castle, she said "Dana and Ian."

Sadie-isms

Some funny things that Sadie has been saying lately:

• When asked if she wants something to eat, she replies, "I really do." (As in the Mo Willems book, "Pigeon wants a puppy...'I really do.'")
• "Neck-ick" means "I want to be naked."
• "Scu mees" means "Excuse me" (Often used when trying to get around the dogs.)
• "Supa Why?" means "Can I watch my new favorite show, Super Why?"
• "I like ick" (said while scrunching up her face and shaking her head) means "I don't like it."

She is so expressive and funny right now. Things come out of her mouth that I am totally amazed by on a daily basis. I sneezed earlier and she said, "Bless you, Mommy." So sweet.

Counting

Sadie is now counting to 14 without skipping any numbers! She skipped 4 and 5 for a long time, but seems to have gotten that down this week. It seems like she has really grown up since she spent the weekend with friends last weekend.

Back in business

Sorry for the weeks of no posting, but I am finally getting back in the swing of things. We stayed with Bebe and Papa for many nights during Restaurant Week and have been to 2 weddings, but now we are back home and in our routine again. Some things we have been up to:

Wearing the Chinese pajamas that Granny gave to Sadie (we all had the same ones growing up from when Pops worked in China and she kept some, isn't that cool?) -

Anyway, we have had a busy few weeks and Sadie has been growing up fast. Her language has really taken off in the last month. She is talking all the time now in 3 and 4 word sentences that she creates her self (not repeats). She can pretty much as for anything she wants by using the correct words and has just started saying (instead of signing) "thank you" and "thanks." I am a little sad that she doesn't use her signs anymore, but it sure if fun to hear what comes out of her mouth. She is remembering people's names, too. She knows our next door neighbor, Lee, and says "Lee home" whenever we step outside. We met a little girl in our neighborhood last night, Ellie. After introductions, Sadie heard us talking about what the girls eat and asked, "Ellie hummus?" I think she was asking her if she liked it. Pretty amazing. I really don't want to be one of those obnoxious parents who thinks their kid is a genius, but I can't help it. So, better not read this blog if you are easily annoyed by gushing parents. 'Cause that's what your gonna get! Gush, gush, gush.

Fun before bedtime

Pronunciations

Sadie has a funny way of saying most things. I shouldn't say funny, but it is definitely her own way. She has started identifying some of the letters of the alphabet (and numbers) and when she sees the letter "s" she does her best to say her name. Sadie sounds like "Sod-ee." She is even able to use it in the possessive, "Sod-ee's". It is pretty darn cute. She also has progressed to actually saying "I love you" which comes out "I wuv you." But, maybe some of the most heartbreaking things she has learned from her book of signs from the library (which she is now saying all of the words she knows the signs to) are "sorry" ("sowy"), "hurt" ("huwt") and "sick" (sounds like "sick.") She even makes the little sad face when she says it.

Naptime for babies

Sadie is saying a new word a minute. This week she is saying, "nap" and putting her babies to sleep. I use the term "babies" loosely. They include Elmo, plastic Little People and her rubber ducky. It is so precious to see her playing pretend. She is also saying "sing." At night, we turn on the aquarium that plays music in her crib (which we have done since she started sleeping in her crib at just a couple of months old). She started humming to the lullably and now she is singing to the tune by saying "sing" over and over again. It almost breaks my heart when she is so sweet.

Daddy has been teaching Sadie how to say a few new phrases (some are more successful than others.) It sounds something like this:
